.223 sierra hpbt
« on: September 18, 2004, 05:22:07 PM »
As i was talking to a friend of mine the other day, i was mentioning that i needed to go and get some bullets for reloading my .25-06. She reminded me that until a year ago she had worked at SIERRA BULLETS (by the way i live about 2 miles from the Sierra Bullets plant),and that she had several pounds of factory seconds that didn't meet Sierra's specs sitting on her porch. I was really paying attention as soon as she said that, and i asked what caliber if she knew. She said .223 52 gr. hpbt, but the reason they were rejected is that they are + or - a grain or two in weight. She asked me if i wanted them ,and i said well i don't have dies for that caliber ,but i will get them now. I got the bullets from her front porch yesterday ,and counted them (653 rounds) of fine varmint, paper punching bullets. Also she had 6 pounds of 9mm pistol bullets, and she asked if i wanted them i said well sure. I don't have a 9mm anymore, because i traded it for my first NEF .223 Survivor.(good trade). i will find something to do with them. Anyways there is a qeustion after all of this. Will they variences in weight of the .223 bullets affect accuracy greatly?

It probably won't matter too much...depending on exactly how much they vary...I know it would be time consuming...but you should weigh them out and seperate them into different groups...that way the all weigh the same...then try loading them up as you normally would...

bull b 25 06,

Got a use for your Sierra bullets.  I am sure there are a lot of guys on the site that have a 30 cal. Handi (30-30, 308, 30-06) that would also like to have a varmint barrel.  Well instead of buying a new barrel, how about usind a "sabot; to shoot the Sierras'.  I came across this site that sells a starter kit for using .22 cal bullets in a 30 cal.

http://www.eabco.com/reload02.html

For $19.95 (see sale) for a 100 sabots and the seating die I'm sure guys on the site that would pay the shipping for some or even give you a little extra for the bullets.  I know if I had a 30 cal I would.

 Just an idea.

You have enough to make them match up

wish I had a bucketful!

You could weigh them and match them for weight.
As long as your zeroed for the weight your shooting they should match up fine.
At around $10(purchase price here) a hundred I would be glad to spend time at the scale.

And for plinking Who cares?

Find someone with a 357 barrel to load the 9mm's in.  Same dia.  Good light plinker bullets.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

Perhaps you should mike those 9mm bullets. Most jacketed 9mm bullets are .355 and most jacketed .357 Mag bullets are .358 diameter. If they are .358 or so I am sure many here could use them....<><....
