I finally got my scope for my 336CS in 35 Rem.
« on: September 13, 2004, 06:35:36 PM »
I went to Bass Pro Shop in Auburn, N.Y. Sunday and bought a Leupold VX-II 2-7x33mm "Shotgun Scope" for my Marlin model 336CS in 35 Rem.! I went with the "shotgun scope" instead of the "regular" (rifle) VX-II scope because the "shotgun scope" has the "heavy plex" reticle and is parallax free at 75 yards instead of 150 yards like their rifle scopes. I use this rifle for my deep woods and brush gun, so this scope should work pretty good :-D

New York Hunter:  I also found myself going to shotgun scopes, or scopes that serve or could serve a dual rifle/shotgun purpose and have found them to be just the ticket.  I have found the Bushnell Banner Dawn to Dusk scopes in 1.5-4.5x33 to be very nice on my rifles, and all for less than $100.  Mikey.

Excellent choices both. I picked up a second Marlin in .35 Rem earlier this year. I noticed it on the shelf at my dealer's place one day when I was in looking to see what he might have I couldn't live another day without.

My other one wears a Williams receiver peep and Firesight front. This one wore a cheap Simmons 3-9 when I got it. I have a Banner just like the one Mikey has on his laying around here that likely will end up on it to replace the Simmons as I'm really not much of a fan of Simmons scopes.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm waiting for my friend to lap the rings so I can mount the scope and sight it in!

:D Cowabunga. I put a B&L 3 to 9 x40 on mine. It is a late 1960's 336 and shoots great.. Don't limit it to short ranges. I got a big doe at 160 yards with .35 Remington. I think that is about the maximum for me in that chambering..It was in a thick place too.. Weaver base and Burris zee rings... from cbagman

I put a vintage Weaver K10 on my 1955 era 336 in .35 Rem. Would have liked to have kept it iron sighted, but these old eyes don't work well.

I just replaced the receiver sight on my 336 with a Weaver K-2.5.  Hated doing that, but the eyes didn't want to focus on the front sight anymore.  I could focus on the target with glasses on or the sight with them off, but not both at the same time (sigh)....
