weatherby (300win mag)and savage(270 or 3006) guns at my store scanned to 360-390, just like the tags said they would.

How do I find one of these mismarked/clearance guns?

I would suggest talking to either the dept. or store manager. This is supposed to be a nationwide sale from what I understand.

Well, went back to another Wal-Mart and picked up the Savage .243 for $220.  They knocked 30 dollars off because it had a scratch about 1/8 of an inch and you could barely see it.......Buddy of mine that has FFL said he can get this gun for $321 and that it the best he can do.  Think I made out like a bandit.

well i couldnt stand not being able to pick one of those rifles up but i didnt have extra money and couldnt make it work. then i realized i had a mossberg 500 i wasnt using anymore since i got a 9200. i didnt need two 12 gauges. but i DID want a .17HMR.

i traded the mossberg and got a new rifle, a Savage 93r17 with a heavy barrel and scope, for only about $100 after trading the mossy.

so i feel better about not buying a cheap weatherby at wally world now. besides i already had a vanguard .243.

I have been following this posting for a while and am curious. Why is Walmart clearing out several different brands of firearms? Has anyone asked at the local walmart they bought their new guns from. Old stock that needs clearing out? Hunting season promotion? The last time I saw walmart clear out any firearms was when they quit carrying handguns and sold all of the pistols they had at a considerable discount. Is this a similar situation?

Just wondering

Not everything is clearanced, just a whole bunch of it.  From what the manager said, they were getting ready to get in a whole lot of new models and they were clearing out all the old stuff first.  I doubt Wal-mart would quit selling. They sell a huge percentage of the nation's guns and make quit a bit of cash from it.

Wal-Mart

The above is correct.  Wal-Mart is making way for some new guns.  The Savage I picked up is a 2002 model, but heck, I don't really care.  A decent price for a throw around gun.  Might not be as fancy as my Browning A-Bolt 25 WSSM or my TC Encore, but will probably get the job done.

I have been in about 8 or so walmarts and all the guns I found on the $250 sale were brought into stock in 2001.  That means they have been in stock for about 3 years.  I found, what I thought was a 7mm Rem on sale, in the Vanguard.  But it scanned out at the full price, what ever it was, I don't remember but it did have a 2003 date tag on it.  It looked just like the Vanguard 270 Win that I got for $250, syn stock, blue barrel etc.  So I think what the deal is that they are marking them down after being in stock so long.  One clerk did say they were clearing out things because they had new stock coming in.  So keep your eyes open at to the date tags, when they get 3 years old maybe they will put some other stuff on sale.

I think the reason on the Weatherbys is that they no longer have exclusive rights to the Vanguard.  Weatherby released them to the open market last year and I heard they upgraded the stock.  The same with Savage.  They put the Accutrigger on their 110 and 111 series now.  In my opinion that kind of makes them obsolete.  But I have noticed a New Mossberg rifle for under $250 and I haven't heard anything about it.

My local gun dealer said she was going to have access to a Vanguard package with scope by spring. I would say this is what Walmart is going to be getting also. So they need to get ride of what they have on hand.

The ATR-100.  There's some stuff about it over in the Bolt Action forum.  It's supposed to be a decent shooter, so if you're looking for a utility gun then it should be a good deal.  There's no option for a woodstock though and since the trigger guard is built into the stock it'll be difficult to get an aftermarket wood stock unless aftermarket trigger guards become available too.  Chamberings are very limited too (.30-06 and .270 only).  As I said, it you're just looking for a hunting rifle and that's it, then go for it.   Darned synethic stock just turns me from it though (even if I got one of these $250 Vangaurds I had already planned to get a replacment Laminate stock from Boyd's.  They're only $65).

Pick my Vanguard up yesterday. Tried two different Wal-marts, the first one scanned 388.00, the  clerk said he would have to get the box to see if it was discounted. He didn't seem to anxious to  move.
The second store had them price at 300.00, I asked the clerk to scan it and it came up 250.00.
They had two in 270 and 30-06, also they had Winchester pckgs. at 400.00.
Thanks guys.
