I have an up-coming, 1 day black bear hunt in the grest north woods of NH. Long story, but I temporarily lost access to my shooting club. This means I had to buy some factory fodder and will have to make for a short sighting in period on a less than sizeable range/shooting area. I can hope for 25 yards, and Im afraid that will be about it. Im told to expect anything from 5 to 150 yards. I know I can do my part. But Im looking for an ideal sighting in set-up. So if someone could check me please, or offer a better suggestion, I was thinking of putting the POI for the 165 Nosler part. (traveling roughly 2800 fps and not accounting for any wind variables,) at about 1 inche high at 25 yards which should, according to the tables Im looking at, put me within a 1/4" dead on @ 100 yards. Sound about right? Anyone have a better suggestion perhaps? Thanks you,

If you sight in 3/4" low at 50 yards you'll be about on at 100 yards. Going low at 25 yards will put you high at 100 yards. I'd go at least 1" low at 25 yards.

Ooops, my bad. They need to make that little negative symbol a bit bigger......Ok Im just blind

. So yeah, that sounds about right. 1" low to be almost right on at 100 (technically the chart says .7" for a true 100 yard zero, but I figgure 1" is fine and I have, as far as hunting goes, a dead hold right out to my 150 yard mark.)

Every time I have been dead on at 25 I am at least a couple inches high at 100 and never dead on left and right. I am not sure what to tell you . . . it will be very tough, in my experience, to site in at 25 yds and then hunt.

Ill try and see if I can find enough space for 50 yards. 100 is pushing it. Stupid land developer, I have a nice 100 yard range and no way (short of a three + mile hike) to get to it. I guess Ill just have to do the best with what I got.

If you will get it right on 1" low at 25 yards you will be ok out to 200 yd.s

You absolutely cannot be sure of anything at 100 yards and beyond from a 25 yard sight in. Been thru this way too many times and seen way too many different impact points at 100 yards and beyond. Shoot that rifle one way or another at 100 yards or you might just about as well let someone do a bore sight for you.

It's not much better. Anyone going hunting expecting shots out beyond 100 yards with a 25 yard sight in really needs to rethink the trip.

Well I tried it today and was having problems (I could only stand and shoot offhand, and the wind was howling at about 20 MPH.) Im gonna beg the guy taking me to see if we can hit his range Friday and do a true 100 yard sight in. If not then it looks like Im taking the Muzzel loader and shooting up close and personal.
