reduced loads for 41 mag
« on: September 08, 2004, 02:55:37 PM »
Hello;  I have a Ruger three screw in 41 mag that I need some plinking loads for. I seem to have a little flinch and would like to practice with lite loads till cured. The only load I can find is 14.2 gr of 2400 over a 215 gr Lazer cast bullet for about 850 fps.
Also any loads for a 265gr hard cast with gas check for my Marlin 41 mag would be helpfull.
  Thanks for any information recieved.

Lite loads for 41 Mag

Just got back from shooting a couple of Lite loads.  210 grain cast semi-wadcutter with a gas check.  One with 6.8 grains of Unique, the other with 6.8 grains of 231.  The Unique load ran around 850 fps, the 231 load around 750 fps.  (I have the exact chrono numbers at home.)

Both loads obturated OK but varied a little too much in velocity indicating they should be a bit heavier.  I'm going to try 7.5 grains of Unique and 7.0 grains of 231.  (You have to be careful with 231, it's quick and you can reach max pressure early on before you get true magnum velocities.)

7.5 grains of Unique, Winchester primer, 215 cast bullet.
Mild and very accurate in my 4 5/8" Blkhk.

Good Luck,
