Help Give Graybeard an Alias!

Charlie Graybeard maybe the one they mentioned they were going to take back. Or he might get to keep it and maybe they just didn't want me in their club. Dunno. Just know the treatment I got sure wasn't what I was expecting and the names I was asking for were acceptable in accordance with the guidance right there on the membership sign up page.

I'll pursue it with the local Bama clubs and if they let me shoot that's fine. I don't really have money to do a lot of traveling to shoot big matches anyway.

I saw that last night. A wire name, though has nothing to do with a SASS name. Still, what a coincidence.

Graybeard, friend , don't give up on us yet! I have an e-mail in to some pards at the club. I'm trying to get something figured out. Snubbing a man with your influence in the shooting world is a dumb thing. If I had to bet, the "supervisor" in the office when you called was probably the one called Graybeard or a close friend of his. I am seriously considering e-mailing SASS to lodge a complaint. Say, why don't a whole lot of us do that? Given enough e-mails, they will probably change their tune!

I hate to put a damper on your enthusiasm but one of the reasons I'm fed up with SASS is their lack of response to emails. I have even offered to help answer email (sent the offer several times by email of course) and no response. I did get one reply from the first email I sent them. Took over a week. I asked about when I could expect my member package. I had the package before the email and that took over a month.

SASS, I am told, is a business not a non-profit or political org.

Yeah, old Cane, I've heard about their fast e-mail service. Well, it was worth a try. I sent a polite question to them.  Don't really expect an answer, but it might help.

They may have changed. I hope so. I was really looking forward to being a member. So far, it hasn't been worth anything to me. I hope it changes in the future. I need a hobby. Still, it's fun enough to shoot in the pasture.

Old Cane, where in Tennesse are ya? I'm working on finding out for Graybeard, but I think you can shoot with us without being a SASS member.

I'm in Murfreesboro. I am a SASS member, just don't plan on renewing. At least not until they show me they have changed attitude. It's the organization, not any members or anyone I have ever shot with. Always nice folks. But with all the crap and the snide editor remarks in the Chronicle, I asked to have my subsription cancelled. Of course, no response to my email. Now I get it on time instead of 3 weeks after everyone else.

I'm just upset with their business practices and attitude. They aren't the only game in town....ok, they are. And that's how they act. I've heard they have hired more people. I hope they get it together. I know they have had a tremendous growth. Just a "please bear with us" on the website would be nice. I offerd to help with the site too.

When I called a woman answered the phone and was the one who first told me that no I couldn't use Graybeard in my alias because someone already had that name.

The supervisor she told me she was going to consult with who came on was also a female. So nope don't think "she" was likely the Graybeard but might be tight with him, dunno.

She too told me that the name Graybeard was taken and therefore I couldnt use it in anyway in my alias. I read to her the following RULES from their membership page:

These rules are enforced in accepting a new alias for SASS registry:

It must be "printable" before a wide audience.

No duplications are permitted.

If it SOUNDS the same, it is the same.

Adding "too," "II," etc. is not acceptable.

"Ranger" could become "Texas Ranger" but not "The Ranger." "John Henry Chisum" could be modified to "Jack Chisum" but not "John H. Chisum" or "Jon Henry Chisum."

Historical names may not be modified to make them different. "Wyatt Earp" and"Marshal Wyatt Earp" are considered the same.""

I see what I was asking for to fall into this RULE:

"Ranger" could become "Texas Ranger" but not "The Ranger." "John Henry Chisum" could be modified to "Jack Chisum" but not "John H. Chisum" or "Jon Henry Chisum."

If the word Ranger can be used by many why can't the word Graybeard? I could understand if they turned down one possible alias with the word used if someone else already had it or if it wasn't different enough from what someone had.

BUT what I was told was the word Graybeard is off limits and cannot be used PERIOD in an alias.

As I said she even noted in the conversation that they had approved another request for someone with the word and would be taking it back from them and making them use a different name.

Now that ain't following their own rules as written right on the site and sure ain't the "cowboy way" as I understand it.

I would still be willing to join IF I can use one of the names I selected with Graybeard in it so as to keep the continuity of my site going in this new sport. Yes I feel like with the power of this web site I could be of value to the organization and to shooters as well. Probably in a month's time or a little more there are more different folks visit my site than are currently members of SASS. That's a lot of potential new members for the organization.

Just my thoughts on the matter.
