Paint thinner ought to do it. Just don't get it on the wood, or it will ruin your finish. Blueing is attached to the metal, kinda like rust, so it won't peel off with the paint. Just go easy of you have to scrub any paint off. Rag first, then light pressure on the steel wool if the rag doesn't work.

If dealing with a shotgun with a removable barrel remove it otherwise remove the wood and using a COTTON cloth outdoors, soak the cloth in acetone and the paint will soften rapidly.  A steel wool pad(coarse) scrubbing lightly while daturated with the acetone will speed the process.  Be very cautious!!!!!!!acetone is EXTREMELY flammible and its vapors are simply put explosive.  Do this outdoors and stay safely away from ANY source of ignition..  The acetone may be captured and reused after sraining or allowing the particulates to settle out..  Read the warnings.  A last note, acetone can dissolve fingernails with prolonged exposure so caution is needed here but paint thinner simply cannot disolve some of the modern synthetics..  Be careful and good luck//

I'd use automotive brake fluid......not too flammable, or explosive.

Weren't you ever a teen-ager???

Take care.

SS'

All kidding aside: I never did the brake fluid trick to avenge anything by attacking a paint job......but it has been done, as some of you know!
