reduced loads for 7mm rem mag?
« on: September 01, 2004, 04:31:50 AM »
Has anyone used reduced loads for the 7mm Rem Mag?  I'm looking for a way to shoot mine more, with less flinching. (26" Encore)

Here's a place to start:

Notice that their published data also uses H4895, so I think you're in good shape.

A big help would be to replace the recoil pad with a Sims.  It'll do wonders to get rid of that kick.

I wouldn't go any lower then what they have in the manuals. They have a starting point and a max point for good reasons. Don't mean to sound like a wise ass but I got a bullberry barrel in 7mm RM and the chamber is tighter then any other rifle I have seen and I called sierra about some loads and they highly recommended not going below their starting loads.

Lee #2 has some reduced loads listed for 120 grain bullets.

IMR 4198  39.5 - 44.0  2709-2980 fps
IMR 4227  33.0-37.0   2435-2705 fps
SR 4759   32.2-36.6    2404-2695 fps

The 4198 loads would be adequate for deer from top to bottom. With the other two, you would want near top loads for deer.

The Speer manual has some reduced loads for the 7mm Rem Mag for 130,145, 160 and 175 grain bullets using SR 4759 powder, in all cases it recommended CCI mangnum primers.
