superdown,

I don't currently have a .35 cal., so I think I'd like to have one too!
It could be a dandy Elk cartridge!

It's already been done as a wildcat. The Australian magazine Guns & Game called it the .35 Sambar and built a project rifle around it. Sambar are a deer native to India that were introduced here and are the most challenging hunt in terms of deer hunting in Oz. Mind you, Winchester are unlikely to give them the credit or to give the credit to any number of other wildcatters who may've also done it.

Sweeet!  It's on my want list!  Wonder what rifles will be chambered for it.  Though I'm not a real fan of the new Winchesters, I might just have to get one for this round.

I hate to sound skeptical here guys, but as neat as I think the concept of the .35 WSM is (I like the idea of a 8mm and .338 as well) will it really do anything a .35 whelen won't; with less recoil?

Well, if the 35 Rem Mag is the ballistic twin to the 35 Whelen, and is a shortened Win Mag case, and the WSMs are not just shortened but widened too, there should be some improvement over the Whelen.

I wonder, what 35 cal magnums are out there?  I know only of the Norma Mag.

Another advantage of this is that if Winchester puts out this round, it means there will be rifles for it too.  Not much selection in 35 Whelen.  I wish the Rem Pumps were a standard item, not just a special one.
