A huntin' we will go!
« on: August 04, 2004, 03:26:49 AM »
Booked a hog hunt for August 27-29 last night.  My brother and dad will join me this time.  I've never hunted hogs in the summer, so this will be interesting.  I'll be taking my new bow (haven't bow hunted in about 5 years) with my muzzleloader as backup.  Dad is using his ML and my brother will shoot his .300 WSM again.  Three weeks and counting!

Well, the trip went fairly well.  Except for losing my cell phone and nearly getting bitten by a rattlesnake, we had a great time.  Here are some of this weekend's casualties.

My brother was first up and took this nice little boar of about 80 pounds.

My dad's turn came next, and he crept up on this nice 130 pound boar and shot him with his Winchester Apex muzzleloader.  Unfortunately, he had him all skinned out before I showed up with the camera.

Just after that picture was taken, we heard some pigs grunting in the brush a couple hundred yards from the meat shed.  I grabbed my Encore muzzleloader and Dad and I snuck up on a herd.  I managed to shoot this 115 pound sow at about 50 yards.  Her white guard hairs made her relatively easy to see by moonlight.

Dad left early, but my brother and I stayed another night.  Not long after sunset, he heard pigs munching corn from his stand and climbed down.  After circling to get the wind right, he snuck up on this nice 105 pound boar and shot him at 30 yards with his rifle.

After tending to that meat, he and I made another round.  We checked several baited sites before we found one with pigs.  We crept within about 40 yards of five pigs and I shot this 100 pound sow with my Encore.

Desertram,
Looks like you all hit the jack pot. Good job fellers, Wish i could have been there to see the show.

Howie,
We have missed you, Where in the world have you been, Its not the same without you. I was getting ready to call the local hospital and see if they had seen you. Have you been doing any good with your bow hunting ?

Great job. Where was the hunt? I am thinking about putting a hog hunt together here in FL for late October. Still like summer here then.

Your dad doesn't mess around and is a pretty fast skinner if he got that far before you got to him with a camera. lol
