Heavy .280 loads
« on: February 05, 2005, 07:00:14 PM »
Why doesn't Remington load a heavy, pointed bullet in the .280?  The heaviest bullet they load is the 165 grain but it is a round-nosed bullet.  I would think the 160 or 175 grain Nosler Partitions or even Remington's own 175 pointed Core-Lokt would be a good choice.  Such a load would give the .280 good down-range retained energy for use on big game.

Federal makes a few loads like that. They load a 150 gr. Nosler Partition, a 160 gr. Trophy Bonded Bear Claw and a 160 gr. AccuBond. The biggest problem with Remington is they come out with new ammo and then they do away with it after a year or so.

Yep, I took a look at the Federal 2005 catalog yesterday and it seems they have a good variety of loads.  Remington, however, seems to stick with the various flavors of Core-Lokt, and the heaviest spitzer is 150 grains.  Winchester, which used to load 160 grain Silver Tip Boat Tails, now lists only 2 loadings, both 140 grains.
