I must say, I was a little disappointed with the lack of shooting that I heard.  It makes me wonder if the deer are there, but there are less hunters in the woods, or if the hunters are there, and there are less deer in the woods.
Nevertheless, I scored late in the morning on a big doe out in Wayne Co.  It was about a 20 yard shot with my .41 mag Desert Eagle.

I'm so discouraged with my shotgun, I don't think I'm gonna hunt the southern zone at all this year!  I think I'll stick with my rifles and the northern zone. :shock:

Hey,
      Hunted two days and have only seen 3 deer.  One Buck and two does.   I am hunting in Orange County just outside of Sugar Loaf  and this is the least amount of deer I have seen in the last 15 years.  Am moving to a new location in a swamp tomorrow and hopefully will be able to fill a doe tag.  I must say I am hearing from other folks that deer are over running their corn fields etc., just not where I am.  Good Luck Guys.

I read over on the shotgun board that Remington replaced the barrel. What's happening now? Post again over there, I'm sure someone can help. I will if I can. Plenty of time left to hunt this season.

I hunt in the Franklinville area. Very discouraging season so far. Monday was the worse opener I've seen in years. The only thing I saw were 2 squirrels and a coyote. Out of 7 guys at the camp only 1 doe taken. Tuesday didn't see a thing in the morning. Finally Seen 3 does in the afternoon. Bagged one of them. Two deer out of 7 guys, not a good start. There was very little shooting for the amount of hunters in the area.

I dropped my deer off at the processer this morning, the lady said thing were real slow so far this year.

Ramrod, Remington did give me a brand new barrel. I put it on the gun tightened it nice and tight like the guy at Remington told me to. I mounted my Leupold scope on it. Again making sure everything was tight. I went to the range last Friday. I brought some Remington Premier Core-Lokt Ultra Sabot Slugs, Winchester Partition Gold Sabot Slugs and Lightfield EXP Sabot Slugs with me. I haven't seen a Remington barrel that likes the high velocity slugs, this one is no different. Both the Remington and the Winchester slugs are 1900 FPS. The Lightfield's are 1450 FPS. I shot it and was extremely p*ssed off to say the least! The Rem. and Win. slugs shot about a 9 to 12 inch group at 50 yards. The lightfields were around 4 inches at 50 yards. After shooting $200 (80 to 90 slugs, I lost count) worth of sabot slugs, driving to Remington in Ilion, N.Y. (60 miles each way) and going back and forth to the range (25 miles each way) 3 times and killing my shoulder (it hurts!) all in a week, I'm really frustrated with it! I had a 20 inch rifled barrel and a B- Square scope mount on this shotgun and it shot 2 inch groups at 100 yards with the Lightfield slugs.

 My friend told me not to buy a Remington barrel. He told me to get either a Hasting's or an Ithaca barrel for my Remington. I wish I would have listened to him or even bought a Hasting's or Ithaca barrel for my Ithaca model 37 in stead of my 870! The worst part about the whole thing is that I'm suppose to go to his hunting camp for a weekend and its in the heart of the southern tier! :eek:

Well, if it don't like the high velocity stuff, stick with the lower velocity heavy stuff. I'm using Winchester BRI, advertised at 1350, no way I'm getting even that from my bobbed Hastings barrel.
If I were you I would definitely go hunting this weekend with the Lightfields, just keep shots under 75 yards. Not hard in the woods. You can sort out the issues later, don't pass up a hunt because the gun does not shoot better than the smoothbores that most folks here use.
