bought some .45 ammo at a gunshow a few weeks back to try a friends 1911 with. it's made by winchester olin and comes in a white box stamped made in usa in big letters. it only has the winchester name in small print o the back. the head stamp reads W C C 1989. i assume since it only shows maker and year,and no caliber that this is military issue ammo?

Kevin,
It's hard to say if this lot was specifically destined for Military consumption only. I have been in the USN for 17+ years now and every time we hit the range there's a different combo of amunition in our stores.
It's not uncommon to see "Commercial" Federal Buckshot and  Winchester 9MM rounds at the range. Seems Uncle sam is getting deals from the lowest bidder.  
(Fortunately we got rid of the TZZ stuff from Isreal. That stuff was hard core JUNK!!!!)

The big producers just pack rounds differently for public sale.  I would assume they lost a good share of the government .45 market when we stumbled upon the Beretta, the remainder of their product wound up on retailer's shelves.
