ive been shooting for around six years im 16 i am compeating in ihmsa i have a contender frame i am looking at ether a 270 max of 375 jdj i shot a 270 max last year i found the recoil pretty managable can u tell me the recoil differance and reliability differences of the two cartrges

This is like comparing a 38 Special with a 44 Magnum ! The 375 JDJ is an awesome hunting round - but, it is MUCHO overpowered for silhouette. A lot of your better Standing category are gravitating more and more to the "lower recoiling" rounds, such as 270 Max, 30-20, 30 Carbine, 300 Whisper, and so on. As an International class shooter, I shot my best scores with a 30 Carbine and a 357 Mag revolver. I think that the 270 Max could be the perfect gun for standing - good knock-down and light recoil. The 375 JDJ is too much of a good thing, unless you enjoy recoil and noise. It is an awesome round - I have shot one in a hunting set-up and I was mucho impressed - but, would not want to shoot a silhouette match with it !

thanx i still am looking to buy one on account i like recoil. i love everything big. but im not sure if i can control the 375 i got into the aa class using a 44. if i can i would use something of that caliber to shoot shillouette

i forgot i also know someone who uses a 350 weatherby mag to shoot shillouette ( He uses a hard hat after the first twelve stiches so)

I saw it first so wrote you under your other topic "can I handle the 375JDJ", so check that out.

As for IHMSA, forget it. Doubt you'll find a range director who will even let you near his targets with a 375JDJ - this cannon destroys silly's. I know because I finally talked my local state director into letting me try it one day. He made me start on the 200 yard rams and after the first shot, he verbally tossed my 375JDJ off the range - about as far as I tossed that ram up onto the berm with a 270 gr. soft point. Can we say golfball crater over half way into the 1" plate steel - and that wasn't a max load.

The 375JDJ is for hunting, target shooting and plinking - not IHMSA. It also does a hell of a job of scaring the bejesus out of the BR guys on there rifle range if you cut one loose 300 yards downrange without warning them first. :wink:

i was never planning to use it on shillouette i was origonaly planing to hunt a whitetale with my forty fore but i cant hit crap with it. I already have 7-30 watters and 22 hornet for my ihmsa matches i am planing on hunting with it

That's a lot of gun for whitetail. They are very accurate so place your shots to save the meat.

45-70 375 jdj recomendation?

I have the 375's for their long range accuracy and great energy even "way out there". Much better than the 45-70 in that department. But personally, I wouldn't use either on a whitetail. If whitetail is your game, take a good look at the 309JDJ. Much better matched to the game you are after and much easier to shoot. I'm on my 4th one of them. For big western mule deer the 309 is what I'd carry.

If your after whitetails just use your 7-30 waters.
