Author Topic: ? on Remington semi-auto rifle (Read 790 times)

I have never really been that interested in semi-auto hunting rifles but I bought one today because it seemed like a good deal and my uncle has been wanting a rifle to deer hunt with and I thought he might want it. It is a Remington model four chambered in .270 win. It is in good condition, metal shows no real wear and no rust I could see, the wood looks good it does have a couple of small dents and a very small chip where the buttstock and receiver meet. what can you tell me about this model? Are they still made or when were they made. How good are they quality wise and about how much would one in the condition discribed be worth?

No experience with one and no they are no longer made. Never even heard of them to be honest. But from what you described you were in your right of mind in purchasing the gun. But I have no experience w/ the model so my opinion is only half-assed. Hopefully someone else can back up what I have here. Good luck and take care!

The model 4 was the fancier version of the model 7400. It replaced the old 742BDL. You did well buying it. It's a good rifle and you'll get years of service from it. You won't regret buying it.

I'm a remington fan the model 4 was made early to the middle 80s them the 7400 was made there after.....I had a 742 made in the mid 70s that wore out the action [receiver].....that was a problem with the 742...........but the model 4 they hardened the receiver ....My brother inlaw has a model 4 its an tack driver.....he can shoot 100 yards and he can hit golf balls off a post with it.....people at the range can't believe that auto doing that....they are a delux looking gun with the brass round inlay just ahead of the clip area that said model 4.....They are more expensive to buy at a gun show or a sporting goods shop...$350 to $400 to buy used and that is over what they sold for new about $300 new......They hold there value because of the short number of years they made them & there features....I wish i had one but i have the engraved 7400 the 1999 edition....ITs a great gun keep it clean and only 'lightly' oil the action....I have shot a remington big calber auto for 15 years.....You bought a great gun!!!

Thanks for the info guys. I was going to let my uncle have it for what I have in it if he wants it.
This may be the first time anyone has had trouble putting $200 into my hand and getting it to stay without it being thrown back at them.
