Buying barrels online?
« on: September 02, 2004, 11:56:58 AM »
Is there any place online you can order barrels? I'm looking for .308 or 454 casull pistol barrels. I live in Indiana and nobody stocks them.

          Thanks,
          Shayn

you can ( and should) get them from ed at the link above. He is a sponsor of this great website.

If you want  custom you can always go to SSK (also sponsor), Bullberry and a host of others.

I give Ed a call and he had what I wanted. Now I just have to decide on the 308 or the 454 casull. any suggestions? I will mainly be hunting and a little target shooting.

Go with the .308....

You have all shapes, weights and colors of bullets for the .308.    And, if you get bored with the .308, you can send it off and get a rechamber to a .309JDJ or something of that nature which uses a 444 Marlin case necked down to a .308 caliber for a little more punch and just to be different.  8)

Hey Shayn!

Here is a link to a .308 barrel that is currently for sale on this website.

http://www.graybeardoutdoors.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=40136

It is listed in the T/C Encore classifieds forum. You can find lots of great bargains if you just take your time and wait for what you are looking for to come along on Graybeards classifieds.

I just purchased a 7mm-08 barrel for my Encore last week off the classifieds. I got it yesterday. A great barrel. I'm going to use it for deer hunting this year.

Ed has the next best option going I think. A real nice guy and a straight shooter. You'll have no problems dealing with Ed.

Also, E. Arthur Brown and Company run some really good specials from time to time on T/C products and barrels.

I would have to suggest that you go with the .308 as opposed to the .454. I think you will have more options available as far as bullets and components go. Also, tons of surplus ammo for the .308 caliber.

Just about all of the guys on this site are a great bunch to deal with.

Where in Indiana are you located? I'm in west central Indiana.

the first thing I would do is check the state, county and town laws where you will be doing most of the hunting.

If you can use either round for hunting I world go with the 308. you can down load it with 110 bullets for fun or little critters or load it heavy for larger critters.

The 454 is mostly a large game round (not saying it can't or hasn't, be used for the little critters)

Greetings.
I am an avid E-Bayer.....
Have been for several years now and havent gotten Burned yet.
Before you buy or bid, take a look at the seller's feedback.

It's a great indication of how the fella does business.

You might have to wait for a while to see the barrel you want but something will show up eventually.

Then it's up to the highest bidder

Good luck!   :D

I'd also check Ed's T/Cs first.  I have bought one barrel and one frame from him so far with no regrets.

As for the caliber choice I'd go with the .308.  That's what I have currently.  I've never owned a .454 or I might feel differently about it.   I just think that you have more flexibility with the .308.

But as rickyp said check your local hunting laws.  Some states limit handguns to stright walled cases.  In that case if you bought the .308 you'd be outta luck.

Last couple of barrels I found were on ebay I think I got a good deal on them considering one is an SSK barrel and the other a Bullberry.

Just had another barrel arrive from Ed Kirkpatrick on Monday.   I mostly only buy SSK and Bullberry barrels from Ed, but this one was a TC 14" 17M2.   He's a great guy that gives fast service and is very easy to work with.   As suggested, check out his site (although he doesn't always keep it current with all the gunshows he attends).  If you don't find what you want there, LMK - he included his latest list of what is in stock and I'll check the list if you want.

A T/C barrel!!!!   I think that fall did change you.  Seriously though, if it shoots as good as my 14" 17 HMR you will not be disappointed.  Good luck with it.
