What would be a decent scope to put on my son's .308. Have looked at a Bushnell Elite 3200 2x7x32 and 3x9x40, a Bushnell Legend 3x9x40. The 3200's looked to be very good optics for the money. What else is out there that I should consider. I want to keep this one under $250 if possible.

I would get a Nikon Monarch from www.theopticzone.com the last time I checked you could get a lustre(gloss) 3x-9x 40mm for $239 or a matte one for $255
The Bushnell Elite 3200 is also a GREAT scope and the 3x-9x 40mm models are in the new SWFA Catalog AKA www.riflescopes.com for $175(gloss) and $185(Matte) I don't think the website has the same prices but I am sure a phone call will combat that 1-972-SCOPE-IT

I have narrowed this one down to either the Bushnell Elite 3200 2x7x32 or 3x9x40 and the Burris Fullfield 2 3x9x40. What are your thoughts on the best one for the money?

I looked at a Fullfield II at Bass Pro not long ago and I really liked it. I have no field experience with one, so I can not vouch for it or talk against it. You can get that deal with a free spotting scope...and they are Made in USA which is always a bonus to me...

I have an Elite 3200 3x-9x 40mm and love it, but I feel that the Rainguard is overrated...I mean, it works, but I have never missed an animal because I didn't have it...

Hard choice...flip a coin :lol:

I have, among other scopes, 2 of the 3200's in the house. For the Money, I don't think you can beat them, although the Nikon Prostaff scopes are very nice also for an inexpensive scope.

I know I am a biased Nikon owner(for good reasons)but I would agree with that even if I wasn't...for the money spent, it is next to impossible to beat the Pro Staff series. They are clear, track well, hold zero perfectly, Lifetime Warranty, and transmit light as good as most more expensive scopes(as far as the human eye can tell.). I would not rule the Nikon Pro Staff Series out for any and all applications.

My last trip to the range changed my thoughts about Bushnell Elite scopes. A fellow had a 3x9 3200 series scope on his M70 300 mag and it had plenty of eye relief. Better than most IMHO. So much for the listed 3" of eye relief. I like more field of view on low power so I'd get the 2x7. The optics are good enough you don't need to use more magnification to overcome a lack of clarity. In fact, for brush hunting I'd get the Bushnell Elite 3200 1.5x4.5. Hard to screw up and have your scope on too much magnification with it. :wink:

I would try the bushnell elite 3200, a 3X9X40 3-2-1 low light at the optic zone is $169.00.

Hawk, I have that gun. I mounted a 3x9x40 Weaver Grandslam, and I've not regretted it. Very clear and eye relief is perfect for me. I think the eye relief is 3.1.
