Difference between Huntsman and Sidekick?
« on: October 04, 2004, 07:08:43 AM »
I picked up the most recent NEF catalog the other day and looked at the Huntsmans and the Sidekicks.  I'm having trouble figuring out what the real differences are :?

They look the same to me.  What the heck are the actual differences?

Difference between Huntsman and Sidekick?

LC,
Basic difference is the Sidekick can be had with 24" or  26" barrels in Blued or SS and can be loaded with 150gr of powder were the huntsman is a 100gr gun with 24" barrel... The huntsman can have barrels added from the barrel accessory program and the Sidekick can't...

The sidekick is considered "ONLY" a smokepole and can be used in those States allowing only  non-firearm muzzleloader ... So I guess the Huntsman is considered a firearm.... MTNMAN

MTNMAN, ok, now I get it.  The sidekick gets around the Gun control provsiions that effect the huntsman because of the use of the huntsman frrame for modern calibers?

Wonder why the sidekick is good for 150 grains and the Huntsman for 100?  Seems like strength would not be an issue since the huntsman frame is built to handle more pressure than it would develop with a 150 load of bp or sub :?

LC,
Beats the By-Jeez outta me... When I bought my huntsman I bought the .50cal/.243 Combo... Now go figure,  they, NEF list that as being an SB2 frame (Rifle) stronger than the normal huntsman frame... Often given it some thought as to why not 150gr but it's been killin them deer dead with only 100, so I guess I ain't really had the need to try 150. probably only blackin' up the barrel with unburnt powder anyway... Kinda wish they'd offer that extra 2" on the Huntsman Barrel though.... Later, MTNMAN

basically because the huntsman is mounted on a shotgun frame. The sidekick is on a rifle frame. That being said, I bought a 243 and had a huntsman barrel fitted to it. So since it has a stronger receiver, I have shot 150 grains in it to test it and it was fine.
