Cleaning Tip ~ Chamber Guide

Heys guys, FYI

Just purchsed a chamber guide that slips in and locks in behind the extractor. Real easy to use, fits like a glove and will protect the chamber and center the cleaning rod. Great item and available @ Sinclair international. Sold case base diameter / cartdridge length.

:money: I have always used a spent cartridge, drilled out at the primer end to the size of the cleaning rod. I've used this system on my old Springfield '06, my .45-70 Gov't Sharps, and my new Contender .223. Anyone have any comments on this? (BTW I am FANATIC about maintaining proper alignment between barrel and rod.)
A good day shooting is when my bullets group better than my brass!

I've been using a drilled out cartridge in a couple of Contender bbl.'s and they seem to do the job. Only thing is the extractor won't allow it to fit all the way into the chamber unless the bbl. is removed from the frame. Which is probably a better way to clean anyway, but sometimes I just want to run a patch thru w/o the hassle of removing bbl. from frame.
Also the drilled out cartridge sometimes has to be held in place on the withdrawl stroke or the patch will pull it out. This Sinclair gizmo may be worth a look. :D G.
Hurrah fer mountain doin's- :D
