WOW, went to the range yesterday to shoot some loads for my ssk. After shooting some sub 1" three shot groups with 150gr Nosler b-tips, I tried some 165 gr. Three shots, .301" !!!!!!! WOW

Very nice shootin!!! My 309 will shoot just about and load I shoot in it. Are you using 4350??? The Hornaday 165 Spire point is also a very accurate bullet.

My load for the 309jdj is 50gr. imr 4350 with Nosler 165gr b-tips. What Hornady bullet are you using,(sst)? My only complaint is case neck splits. I just got some new Hornady brass and will see if this helps.

kenacp, did you anneal your cases before and after when you first necked them down? I didn't know Hornady made .444 marlin cases. Thought Remington was the only one. Pat

Pat, I'm only annealing after necking down to 308. Most splits come during fireforming, and a few during the next shot. Should I be annealing 2x? Midsouth sells 444 Hornady brass (expensive).

kenacp, I'm using the same load you're using except I use H-4350(same charge weight-7/16" @ 100). I only annealed as you did, but I've read that you should before and after. I haven't had the splits. Are you sure you're annealing properly-sounds like your necks/shoulders are still too hard. Pat
