first and most importantly,  dont get obsessed with pull weight.  if you shoot 65 # compound, you should be looking at  50 to 55# trad bow.    use heavy arrows, with broadheads you sharpen yourself.
as far as brands,  pearson, bear, pse, and many others are plenty of bow for someone just getting their feet wet.  many can be had on ebay for a fair price.  stay away from twisted or cracked limbs. if you have more patience,  try garage sales.  lots of times a usable bow can be for a song.  the great thing about traditional bowhunting is that it isnt about status.  it is about hunting- and the fact you dont need to spend big $ on it to do it.
looking foward to having you around.

Dear Illhunter:
Welcome! I hope I may help. The books by G. Fred Asbell ( 1 & 2 ) (Don't remember the titles, sorry) and the book by Jim Hamm, Hunting Whitetails with recurve and longbow, come to mind. Try Interlibrary loan.
If the arrows are matched to you and your bow, they'll be accurate and penetrate to their potential. The bow you get is what you'll have, but the effort put into the arrows is where the payoff is.
This stickbow stuff is addictive, you do realize that, don't you?
