« on: October 12, 2004, 10:10:37 AM »
I have found a guy that has an almost new Win. M95 in .405 Win. but I have found very little data in my reloading manuals.  Looking for load suggestions and what anyone thinks of this cartridge.  Lawdog

Hodgdon has quite a lot of data, including for cast bullets:

Lawdog,
The winchester 95 is what i used for my Bear hunting. I was casting 350 gr
Round nose bullets and if memory serves me rite I loaded 44grs 4895. It seemed to work ok. I had other rifles but they didn't work out as a saddle gun. Sorry i don't have any of the loading data. ( went with the divorce )
along with a lot of other things. If the price is right thats a fun gun to say the least. Teddy used one. Good luck...........Joe.........

Lawdog,

You might check out Ken Waters' "Pet Loads". It is older information but is a good starting point. Hodgdon does have some information on its site.

Buffalo Arms handles DKT bullets in .411 diameter. They may have some good suggestions. One load I've seen with the DKT 300-grain bullet is 50.5 grains of Alliant's Reloader 7.

Lawdog, about a year ago I emailed Barnes customer service about recommended loads for the 300 grain Barnes X bullet. One of the recommended loads was 51-53 grains of IMR 4895. With 53 grains you get 2200 fps out of the new 1895.  With the barrel sight I got reasonable accuracy- 3.5 inch group at 200 yards.  My gun is off at the gunsmith's having a Pachmyar dec. pad and a Lyman 38 receiver sight put on.  Good luck. - Mike
