Buffalo Ball-ets on deer?
« on: October 08, 2004, 05:07:33 AM »
Has anyone used the 245gr 50cal Buffalo Ball-ets on Whitetails?  My T/C White Mountain Carbine shoots these the best of everything I've tried so far.  I figure it's got about 1/3 more lead than a round ball and there have been plenty of deer killed with those.  What does your White Mountain shoot the best?  Thanks.

I, for one, intend to try these out in Lyman Great Plains Hunter. Check the "Conicals with wads" thread on this forum for a reccomendation to use these projectiles. jd45.

Hope you get a few more replies.  I will be using the same gun and ball-ets on deer first thing in the morning.  The heck with other replies, I hope I can give you an answer after opening day.  What load are you using and how does your gun shoot?

My wife and I head out on the 18'th, and are both using the Ball-et. She is using a Traditions Deerhunter and mine is a Lyman Deerstalker. My load is 80g of FFFg Goex, and hers is 80g of 777 FF. I hope they work ok, we have used ball most of the time. But I was having some problems with accuracy with any ball traveling over 1300 fps, so what the heck.

Well I don't know about White Tails, but on NM Mule Deer it did just fine. 90 grains Goex FFFg and a Ballette at 40 yards.Never did recover the bullet but that mulie dressed out to about 120 lbs. Entrance was typical 1/2" exit was bout  2" This was with a Traditions Shenendoa with a 1:66 twist

Enemies may come into our country and times will have changed, but then the boys will come down from the old high hills and belt on their guns again.

Thanks everyone.  Our season in Louisiana doesn't open for another couple of weeks.  I am shooting 100gr of Clear Shot and at 80yds, it shoots about a 1" group.  I do have a 4X scope on it though.  I am going to try to pick up another barrel and leave it with iron sights.
