What is the difference in triple 7 and pyrodex pellets? Which would be best to shoot in your muzzle loader?
I enjoy collecting guns, swaping and staying up on all the newest models. I deer, quail, squirrel and rabbit hunt.

Triple7 is cleaner burning than the pyrodex and burns faster. You will have to shoot both to see which one works better in your particular gun. I have found triple7 to work very well in my Encore's Also check out there web site.  :D    http://www.hodgdon.com/data/tripleseven/index.php

I am probably the odd one out as I like Pyrodex better than 777. The Pyrodex is cheaper than the 777 and half the fun is stinking up the place when you shoot. The 777 makes alot of smoke but doesn't stink. I don't have a problem cleaning up with either one and don't notice any real difference in the time it takes to clean between the two. I have never tried the pellets.

t7 will corrode your barrel as well. not as fast as pyro, but will still do it. if you look at the hodgson brochure, notice how it says" cleans up with water...." but doesn't once say that it's non-corrosive????
you wanna take my guns? go ahead, it's your arm!

I look at the corrosion angle this way.  When I shot Pyrodex, I would never THINK about letting the gun go 24 hours with residue in the barrel as I knew the patch would come out with rust.  With 777, I don't worry about a day or two as I've never seen corrosion with it.
With Pyrodex, I also found that even after cleaning it as well as possible the gun would sometimes corrode if I didn't clean it a second time a week or two later.  This never happens with 777, and it does come out with many fewer patches.
If you're very cost-sensitive, the choice is clear though.
