weatherby 270
« on: October 24, 2004, 01:49:06 PM »
Does anyone hunt with a weatherby 270. I have an encore with a vvcg 26" weatherby 270 barrel for it and need some info on bullet choice for it.I dont reload, so it will be one that weatherby already loads. My shots are close50-100 yards.I thought about the 104gr ballistic tip. I like big holes.

I never used a 270 weatherby personaly but we used to have a doctor who came into camp and used weatherby ammo with there stock bullet and let me tell you it dropped antelope and mulies  FLAT!!  at under 100 yards i can only imagine  how big the hole will be with ballistic tips.  i think it  will be beyond devastation. Good hunting!! Anthony

shootdonniebrook,

I own a .270 Weatherby Magnum and in this cartridge you really don’t want to use the 140 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip.  The damage on a deer would be tremendous.  You would be much better off using the 140 gr. Nosler AccuBond.  At least the AccuBond will hold together where the Ballistic Tip is questionable at best.  Ballistic Tips shouldn’t be used at velocities over 2,850 fps..  Lawdog
