« on: October 10, 2004, 03:27:05 PM »
Got these in the last few days.  First with a bow and the other ones with a 9.3 x 62 CZ 550 American shooting 286gr Barnes X at 2,380fps.  Wife got one and I grabbed the gun thinking I was finishing hers off and actually I shot a different hog.

This sow dressed at 170lbs.

These sows were abot 80lbs dressed

hairy pigs

Nice pics!  I notice that all your pigs are really hairy.  What is the percentage of pigs that have hair all over them compared to smooth skinned pigs like the domestic pigs?  How many generations in the wild does it take domestic pigs to go back to the hairy variety?

Don't worry about your wife being better lookin than you.  At least your better lookin than the pigs!   :) Many might wonder in my case!

100% of our hogs are hairy.  Not sure of the number of generations to make a hairy pig.  We have tons of hogs and every one is very hairy....HARD on knives when skinning!!!!  With the cactus and thorns, they have to have some protection and this hair is very good at protecting.  They are definitely more hairy right now as they are prepared for winter, but all year long they have protective hair.

Side note.  We have basically 2 colors of hogs RED/Black and White and black.  About 80% are The reddish black and the others are white and black.

I have killed around 25 hogs in the last four years with the biggest being about 285lbs and the smallest around 50lbs.  None of them have been hairless.  One of my places has hogs that are solid black and really appear more Russian than on oue deer lease.
