Scope on an Encore

What scope are you all using on your Encore 50 calibers?  I am going to scope mine, and am thinking of something in a 3-9X40 or 50.  What brand/magnification/exit lens mm.

Is a 3-9x enough for the encore's capablilities?  I dont want to go too high on the low end for the close up shots.

On my Encore muzzleloaders I use the Leupold 2X7X33mm. Good eye relief and very clear. I say, use what you feel comfortable with. I have seen 3X9X40 and ever 3X9X50's, I just make sure I have a good enough scope to pick up the most light in low light conditions. 90% of my scopes are Leupold and I have a bunch of them.  :D When Mr. Wonderful comes out, I want a scope that is and has been proven to hold up. :-D

I put a Nikon Prostaff 2.5x7x32 on my Omega. It's clear and very bright, especially right at sunrise or dusk.

3X9 is perfect...you don't want to comprimise picking up close targets (where most deer are shot) and 9X is plenty for long shots.  I got one at 300+ with 9X and the magnification wasn't the limiting factor.
   Objective-wise, 35-40 is good.  More is ok but not needed.

300+?  That seems like a real tough shot.  I wouldnt think that there would be enough down range energy left to cleanly take a deer at that range!!

Were you using a muzzleloader??????
That would be one for the record books.  I would consider one at 300+ with my 300 Win Mag.

Andy hunts here in michigan were we have some long shots.

ryan johson  son of randy from ultimate firearms shot a 120 class 8 point last night at 330 yds using a 300sst with 200grain pyro charge and a shepard scope.dead in its tracts  still over a 1000fpe at that range

I've got a Leupold VX-1 2x7, it works great for me bacause I hunt in the woods in southern Illinois. My shots have all been within 100yds. I get a lot of close shots and the 2x works well for that. Word for the wise, when I first started scope hunting, I left my scope on the highest power all of the time. I shot at a basket rack at 15yds. and didn't get it. I thought I missed completely and couldn't believe it. The next weekend I killed the same buck at 60yds. When I got to him to field dress him, I seen where my bullet had grazed the bottom of his chest. Just my advice, keep the scope turned down to a low power, you can always turn it up but you might not have time to turn it down on a close shot.

I have got a Leupold Rifleman 3-9x on my Encore. I got the scope through a trade with a buddy, and have been happy with it so far. If I had to but a scope for the Encore, I'd probably look at a 2-7x Leupold, or a 2.5-8 VX III.

I went with a Millet 1.5-4X and I sure enjoy the eye relief.  :grin:

kicks like a slug gun not bad. during off season when iam punching paper i use 100-150 grain loads
i get 2400 fps or so using the 200grain of pyro pellets using a 300 grain sst!

I've had good results with anything that leupold has to offer, but this time for the muzzleloader I went with a Nikon buckmaster. I checked a few other brands side by side and the nikon seemed the clearest. (3-9x 40) No problems yet and I don't expect any. Get something with a lifetime warranty, optics, fit and finish that you like, and you should be alright. Get the best you can afford and don't look back, good luck. Oh yeah, Burris signature zee rings. :D

I have a 3X9X40 Buris Signiture mounted with Burris Z-rings on my Encore. The Z-rings provide the most precise slip on slip off fit I've ever seen, which is handy when you remove the scope for cleaning the rifle.

2X7 Leupold Shotgun scope.  Love those heavy cross hairs, plus the parallex is more appropriate for my hunting ranges.

what's the benefit of the 2-7x32 over the 40mm?  wouldn't the 40mm obj. give you better light transmission?  just curious because I picked up a
3-9x40 Bushnell Elite 3200 and I'm wondering if I missed something...

Well I picked up the 3200 3x9 40mm.  Took it to the range and started to play.  I found out that my new leopold rings had broken half way through.

Up to that piont I was quite impressed, with both.

Im looking foward to getting it sighted in and trying it again.
