Belted Magnums....

I would like to hear from everyone that has seen or experienced personally feeding problems with a Belted Magnum cartage’s caused by the belt. Remember only your OWN experiences count, not stories you have heard or been told by someone.  Lawdog

Why do you ask? I've never read about such a thing.

since most of there ammo are belted magnums

My 300 Winchester mag Encore barrel didn't want to chamber a fresh round without some serious persuasion.  The belt wouldn't clear the extractor without a lot of strain.  Two seconds with a dremel solved the problem.

Does that example count? :)

I haven't heard of it it being a problem before?

Myself I never have a problem with my Belted Mags.

Hope I never do.

Lawdog your setting these boys up, because you know feeding problems from the belted mags are an old wives tale! This supposed problem was used as ammo for some nitwit who for some reason wanted to claim his 06 or what-have-you was better than those new-fangled belted mags. I've shot thousands of mags and worked on hundreds of other ones and never saw or heard of any problem caused by the belt.

dave375hh:

(Great handle, by the way)

I've come to the conclusion that all big bore rifles must be junk.  At least the complaints on big bore forums are such that anything short of mechanical perfection is to be flamed.  If that's the standard, then it's not coming at the price of a factory gun, and only some custom guns will make the grade.  Must be that a lot of lawyers own guns they don't like.  I've pretty much quit reading the big bore forums because of all the whining.

While all the whining is going on, the rest of us are blissfully in the field enjoying our big bores.

The 375 and its derivative have been around for almost a hundred years. If it-- and the concept of using it in rifles-- were that bad it wouldn't be here today and wouldn't have the endorsement of so many experienced hunters.

Shhhhh...... The real reason I asked is the other day at work one of the new guards made the statement that the newer belt-less magnums fed better than the old belted ones due to no belt.  Well I own a number of belted magnum rifles and fired thousands of rounds through them(wish I had a dollar for every round fired) and have never had a feeding problem.  I just wanted to hear the stories that people keep quoting about feeding problems of belted magnums.  Still waiting for all the stories about bolt action belted magnums rifles with feeding problems.  Lawdog

My pistol doesn't feed well form the left or is it the right side of the mag. The action is a AII Sako made for a 243-308. I shoot a belted 240 weatherby opened up to .411. The rails or follower needs more work, but I have never needed two shots. 5 for 5 on deer.

Maybe that new guard is already working too many nightshifts. :-D   There might be something in the coffee.

A straight-sided, rebated rim cartridge is more reliable in a bolt gun?  Please.
