Action Pops open everytime I fire my .44???
« on: October 12, 2004, 04:24:03 AM »
Was at the range yesterday and everytime I fired the 12" .44 mag the action would pop open.  This happened everytime I fired the gun.  Still getting great groups and it has no other adverse effects, but this is serious.

All my other barrels shoot just fine and do the same.

I will be calling TC today and see if I can get someone to help me.  Anyone else ever have this problem?

I was having the same problem with a 223 barrel. TC had me send the frame and barrel to them. In two weeks I had a spanking new frame and mew locking lugs on my barrel. All without charge on a frame that I bought used! You gotta love a company like that.

I had this problem with a 10" 44 mag barrel with heavy loads.  Got a new set of locking lugs from TC and that took care of the problem.  If you don't get it fixed, your frame will eventually get damaged or rounded off where the lugs snap into the frame.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I called and talked to a tech at support and I have sent off the barrel and action to them.  They will take care of it.  He also felt it was the locking lugs, but wanted to make sure the receiver was in good order.

Good move to send it all back. You can't beat TC's support of their products. My father had a new 14" 45/.410 barrel that would pattern off to the right by like 2 feet. TC replaced the barrel no problem.
