New gun. Me too!
« on: January 22, 2003, 05:48:22 PM »
Just picked up my Winchester '73 by Uberti.  24" octogon brrl in 45 colt.
Sweet rifle!  The wood is nice and fits well, and the rifle shoulders and points real nice.

You guys were right.  The action is smooth right out of the box.  That lever safety spring is a bit too stiff.  Going to have that lightened up when I take it back for the tang sight instal.  Have to wait until Sat. to go shoot it.

I have a question though.....How do I clean it after shooting?  It's my very first lever gun and it doesn't appear as though it's possible to run a cleaning rod from breech to muzzle.  Am I missing something here?  Also it appears as though the only way to unload it if there are rounds in the magazine is to cycle them through.

Which Colt Peacemaker clone should I get to go with it?

Any answers/opinions from the experts? (That would be all of you guys that have owned and shot a lever gun before)

buy a bore guide and do it from the muzzle. and you will have to cycle all the rounds out.

I'm not familiar with "Otis" so it may be the same thing.  Boresnakes are great.  While a bit more trouble, you can take it apart and clean from the breach.
Honestly on the SAA question, who will give you the best deal, and what do you want to spend.  Colt and USFA are high dollar items, even the USFA low end is pretty expensive.  AWA and the high end imports are close to the same price.  Cabelas Mellinium is made by Uberti, same as other imports, can be about the same gun without the fit and finish of the norm.  Good value.  Can be slicked just like the rest.  If you want you can remove the finish and have a gun that looks a hundred years old.

Thanks guys.  I've got a bore guide just in case that was the answer.  I'll look into those"snakes" too.

I was wondering who made that Millennium from Cabela's.  I want a basic "plain Jane" six gun to see if CAS is something I'd like to do.  If it's as sturdy as the rest of the Uberti's I may get one.

Man I feel like a kid on Christmas day!  This rifle is cool.

Uberti.  They are plane janes!  The ones I have gotten to shoot were great!!   Shot to point of aim.  YOu can do your own "fit and finish" work and some minor polishing of the 'innards and you'll have a good pistol for not a lot of cash
