I've used most all the major brands. The CCI line handles most  of my reloading chores quite well.

I have used all of the above except Remington.  Started with CCI but with loading for 243, 7m-08,  308 and 280 it seems like the Federal is most recommended in my reloading books.  Does it really make a difference I am probably not a good enough shot to tell. :(

Those would be Federal and Remingtons.  You can actually still use the Auto prime with them if it's all you've got though.  Federals/Remingtons aren't any more likely to detonate than Winchester/CCI, it's just that if one goes off then with Federals/Remingtons then the whole tray is likely to go off.  If you really need to (ie, it's all you have) then you can just load one primer at a time into the Auto Prime and it'll be just as safe as the other brands.

That  being said, I tend to use CCI primers when available.  They work well for me, though to be honest if one particular brand isn't available then I'll use whatever is on the shelf.

No single answer to this one: For centerfire rifle using large primers, Federal. For centerfire rifle using small primers, Remington BR. For large handgun non-magnum Winchester WLP. For large handgun magnum, CCI. For small pistol, CCI.

CCi primers are my primary primers, but I also have found that Federal Gold Match GM210M are very good primers as well, using the 243 win ,308win, 30/06...Aim small hit small. RAMbo.

I can't pick one brand for all sizes, but here are a few that stand out:

CCI-500 Small Pistol
Rem 7 1/2 Small Rifle BR
Fed Match GM215M Large Magnum Rifle

I STARTED WITH REMINGTON IN LRG.RIFLE TEN YEARS AGO. MY OLD MAN ALWAYS SAID,"IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT". THEY HAVEN'T FAILED ME YET. I ALSO USE CCI IN LRG. PISTOL.

I started with Remington some 30 years ago but had some duds.  Switched to CCI and never had a problem since.

I never heard the deal about the Lee auto prime. I bought mine about 15 to 20 years ago when they first came out and just started reloading the first time in 13 years.  What's the deal?

For the poll, I voted Federal.  But in my preference, I have two choices.  Federal, is for my 300 Wby.  I handloaded over 75 rds. using them with normally large/slow burning powder charges for the caliber and they have ignited without a hitch.  As for the second, I prefer CCI BR-2 for the 30-06.  Haven't had a squib yet w/ CCI and I've handloaded over 1000rds. for that matter.  There was one though, but it was my own fault; somehow missed a powder charge for the round.     No problem, all it did was blacken the base of the bullet, but the bullet remained in the case.  Patriot

I use some CCI but mostly Winchester because they are the most commonly sold around here.

Jim,

In the Autoprime directions it says not to use Federal primers a/c they could go off on you when seating them in the brass.  I have used almost 1000 of them without a problem.  Of course the problem could be on 1001.   I gotta wonder if it is more lawyer stuff  :?

Many moons ago when I first started handloading metallic,... CCI's were in the first recipe that I used.

I just kept on using them and never looked back!

When I first began reloading I bought 500 Win Large Rifle primers for a bargain and I've never had any problems with them. Besides, every time I've needed to get more I haven't been able to find any other brand near my house. Maybe I should have a go with CCI but for the moment the Winchesters are fine.

Found out thru trial and error that CCI BR4's are the best in my .223 NEF.
Besides, I like the little "B" on the primer.

Although I have used Winchester and Federal primers, CCI is the brand most widely available in my area, so it's the brand I mainly use.
