American Pioneer Powder
« on: November 03, 2004, 12:37:56 PM »
 Just was wonder if any one has used American Pioneer. Iinteresting that all BP experts seem not to like change. Seems that man made powder just dose not set right. As I have been reading T7 seems OK. Price of AP is around $16 per pound. As fare as accracy, well I seems not to have any problem. Awards just seem to come at shots. NO PROBLEM with it giving repeated groups. AS I notice and stated some don't like change, but they sure like to spend the green.

I tried it once, still have most of the can. It's real coarse stuff, I thought it was hard to get consistent loads cuz of the radically large granules, it looked a lot like canon black powder in granule size. It shot real clean, though. From what I've read, Jim Shockey likes it, maybe they have improved it since I tried it. From a power potential, for the same $$, T7 is a better buy, less T7 is required to get the same velocity as AP. AP is rated below Goex in velocity for equal loads.

I have only shot a few rounds with AP Powder; however, my initial test 100gr. (volume) FFG load with 300gr. bullets in Harvester sabots recorded almost exactly the same velocity as the same amount of FFG 777 with the same bullet sabot combination. I agree FFG AP powder is too coarse. Others have had good results with FFFG AP powder. I may get some to try one of these days. I am presently checking out Black Mag3 powder which looks better than all the rest to me at this time.
