I have a chinese sks bought new in 93 so it is not C&R. The gun came with the bayonet. It has always been my understanding that it is illegal to attach the bayonet to the firearm. Does anybody know if there has been any changes in the law that would allow me to reinstall the bayonet? I tried looking through the ATF website but trying to make sense of any government websight is a lesson in futility. It would be nice to reinstall the bayonet as it retains the cleaning rod and I like the looks, but if is still a felony I can live without it.

I believe the bayonets that are riveted on with no screw can stay on but the ones that are screwed on have to be off the gun.  But I think its different for C&R guns the sks's they can stay on.  I'm not positive but i think its this way its very foggy on some of these laws.       BigBill

as I understand it, the SKS rifles that were imported after the law
changed had the bayonet lugs ground off. The others should have been
"GRANDFATHERED IN". These laws are extremely vague though.
I am not sure how much the sunset of the assault weapons ban
has changed other laws that now exist also.  And besides, if things
get bad enough to need a bayonet, Then pull your pistol!!!
