kevin.303:  good on ya.  Yeah, they are bigguns, aren't they.

OK, if you look at your stock disc there should be an arrow or traingle with the apex pointing to a number.  That number indicates the degree of barrel degradation, as I understand it.  Maybe BigBill can give us a more accurate answer but I think I'm close to being right.  The numbers range from 1-3 with 3 being the worst and will still group within an inch at 100 yds.  Mine is a #3 but if I the chance to scope it it would shoot snake-eyes.  There are also markings on the stock disc that indicate the unit of assignment.

Those are great rifles.  When you remove the stock, check on the left side of the action to see if you have any scope mounting holes drilled there.  Someone, I think Savage T, correctly informed me of what the '42B' designation means - that they were arsenal reworked in the 50s.  But I have always had a question about the 'B' designation as the M41B (bolt action 96) was the sniper rifle.

Now, all you have to do is lug that thing to the range and see how she shoots.  Let us know.  Mikey.

i actually found a site dedicated to the AG42 and it told me what i needed to know. it's a 1945 carl gustaf and its bore is 6.51 and it will hit point of aim at 100 meters. the bore condition is both 2 and 3 so i assume it's in between. heres the link;

i'm taking out for a test fire this afternoon.

kevin,303,
Congratulations on becoming a "Regular"!  I believe the marks (multiple) over 2 and 3 indicate when it was inspected the last time it was re-marked to a "3" condition.  They would do that if they cosidered the condition to have changed between arsonal inspections.  I don't believe there was a 2 1/2 condition (either 2 or 3).

The numbers 1 thru 3 in the triangle means the amount rust found in the bore.  I never see any even if its a "3".  How the hell they see it I don't have a clue. The 6.51 & 6.49 is the bore size. The "overslag"  is the error at 100 meters if its marked or not thats means no error if there is no marking but i have seen a "0" zero stamped too.  On the underside of the stock grip near the trigger housing is the stamping of "crowns" this means if the rifle was ever pulled out of service and repaired.  The Swede's were very fussy about accuracy and when the accuracy fell off the rifle was pulled out of service and repaired/rearsenaled and sent back into service.  Don't let too many crowns scare you away that means the rifle is in great shape its been repaired and maintained.  Even the stock disc being a "3" is nothing to worry about too for they still shoot great.  You just can't beat the quality of the swedish steels.    :D                                         BigBill

just got back from shooting it. i'm not the greatest shot but it was accurate enough that i wouldn't heitate to hunt deer with it. it's only got 1 crown on underside of the grip. it deformed almost every case that was fired.i was able to see the sights a lot better once i got it out if this dark basement and into the sunlight. i think i have a new favourite, especially since i can put 40 rounds down range with no shoulder pain afterwards. can't say that about my .303!

:)  :)

i figure what i'll do to get the most bang for my buck is get a M96 or a M38 as well. reload the brass fired from those a few times and then use the last load in my ljungman. i still can't get over how little it it recoiled!

kevin.303  If you like the "no recoil" its a pleasure to shoot ljungman you have to get its big brother the egyptian 8mm hakim it handles the sameway "no recoil" and its sending the larger 8mm down the pipe too.  Even the little brother egyptian rasheed is fun to shoot too and just as smooth too.  Now if you want better accuracy just try a swede mauser.
 What a tac driver with iron sites!!!!! :D                                                                        BigBill

Just shoot a swede and let the love begin!!!

Savage T:  Jim, you're right.  Now we just need to get Kevin the address for the Swedish Women's Bikini Rifle Cleaning Team and he's all set, maybe (LOL).  Mikey.

is the hakim actually bigger than the ljungman? the action is probably a bit longer to accomodate the 8x57. the AG42 is plenty big enough, and my next milsurp will probably be an unaltered M96, but that won't be for a while.
