Winchester M70 barrel question
« on: October 23, 2004, 01:26:31 AM »
I have a M70 Classic Stainless in .270 Win.  Is this barrel contour the same as a M70 Classic Sporter LT?  I want to buy a take-off wood stock from a Sporter LT and drop my .270 Stainless action/barrel into it............, will I have any major fit-up problems?

I would say that if the LT were the same caliber it would work fine.  there may be some minor inletting but a lot depends on the caliber of the LT stock.  There are barrel contour variations based on the caliber..  also magazine box variations..although that is much less a problem... Ask for barrel channel width at the end on the forestock and the forestocks length from the recoil lug inlet..  Match it to yours and you'll be close.
