i spent most of friday afternoon trying to mount a new simmons 3-9 x 50 on 22 rf handi. the simmons replaced the NcStar red dot i was complaining about earlier.
my dog stink and i took a ride and picked up a set of scope mounts at gander mountain (god - i thought i was in heaven !) friday morning. brought them home, had lunch and then got to work. earlier, i scoffed at the sign at the gunsmiths window that said "Scope Mounting and Bore Sighting $17.00...
the scope mounts have two small pawls, one on each to engage the scope mount rail. on other rifles, i screwed the allen head bolts down until the pawl fully engaged the scope rail thus centering the scope on the rail. the pawls stopped up against the scope mount too.
for some reason, these mounts don't allow me to snug the pawls up against the scope mount, so the scope isnt forced to center, i had to spend some time trying to center it. which is how and why i wasted most of friday afternoon. it shoots ok, but it just doesnt seem right compared to the other rifles and scope mounts which forced the scope to be on center.
what is strange is that these are the exact scope mounts as i've used before on three different rifles. i must have (a) did something wrong (b) bought the wrong mounts or (c) the mounts or rail changed somehow.
so tomorrow morning on the way home ( i'm at camp this weekend) i will stop at gander mountain, plunk down $17 and have the scope mounted and ask the gunsmith what i did wrong.
if anyone is interested in playing with the NcStar red dot i have, drop me a PM and i will ship it off, maybe one of you can get it work !
