Good start this season
« on: October 25, 2004, 03:50:26 AM »
Opening day at the end of shooting light had a nice 4pt walk out at 80 yrds, dropped him like a hot potato. I was using a Tradition Tracker 209 scoped ready pack, 295 gr pb hollow point and 100gr loose pyroducx ? only thing i did was change the scope rings sighted dead on at 100 yrds 1 1/2 in group and went hunting. it hit high lung with a real nice exit hole about 3/4 in. I know people say you get what you pay for $179.00 but as long as i take care of it , it should last a few seasons.

Congradulations; I know I read the "only get what you pay" for comment a lot. I have an Omega which I paid enough for and a Traditions LT which I paid little for. Both shoot well and yes the quality is apparent. The cheapest rifle you can buy now is likely head and shoulders better than what the oldtimers shot when these things were original. There is a lot of comment about the "Spanish rifles quality" but they are making what the market is demanding. Spanish firearm facilities have been making firearms for a very long time and they are not the normal "third world country" level of ability. They are inexpensive but I would not call them "junk" as I have seen others do.

Congradulations on your deer!

I gave $99.00 for my Traditions 209 Tracker.  Took off the "cheap" open sights. "Plugged" the holes in the barrel (from the open sights) with screws that Traditions sent me for free.  Mounted my "cheap" scope.  Using 245 AT PB and 777 Pellets (100gr).  Zeroed at 100yds.  Will keep the groups at or under 2" at 150yds.  These are not "junk".  I would like a T/C Omega but as long as this keeps shooting the way it does can't justify the extra expense.
