Shorten barrel
« on: October 27, 2004, 01:44:11 PM »
Does any one know of a good gunsmith in the North Missouri area?  I am looking to have a Marlin 336 cut down to 18 inchs w/ a 3/4 mag.  The last guy I talked to said about $130 that sounds a little high, is it?

I wouldn't consider that too bad a price.  He has to completely disassemble the weapon, shorten the barrel, recrown, reset the front sight, shorten the mag tube and install plug.  The mag spring will also need shortening and depending on the model a magazine bracket will have to be made/installed(model dependant).  With a bit of touch up it sounds like several hours labor and perhaps some machine time.  You may also end replacing the front sight.
