Made Meat
« on: October 27, 2004, 05:31:39 PM »
Well yeterday morning my wife and I walked a few small bluffs, and I took a nice big dry doe. It broke from the bush  at 50 yards, and my .495 ball took out the spine just behind the front shoulder. It was a fine fat healthy animal. I will have jerky for the first week of rifle season now.

Snowshoe,

Great shot, glad you did well.  I beg to differ with one thing.  God made the meat, you were hunter enough to take his gift.

Great job! Did better than I did (have to wait a month or two now before I use the Hawken...as much as I love it I'd rather use a modern rifle  :) ). Tried to take one but when the pan went off, a.) not all of the powder in the pan went off (it was raining...I was doin my best to keep it dry) and b.) because of that the main charge didn't go off (turns out it was wet anyway). That doe got away unharmed. But I got some chances until the season is over   . Good luck to ya' all and take care!  :D

Crow-feather, yes it was a gift from god. A little prayer is said every day on our way out, and a big thank you when the deer is given to us.
