« on: November 07, 2004, 10:40:34 AM »
I just purchased a new H&R ultra varmit in 223
When i close the action it does not click like the 17 cal.hmr that i have
I have to really force it closed or it does not latch.
Will it get better as I use it? is there going to be any problems later on.
the 17 hmr is a New England with a bull barrel,Very accerate

Go through and clean the crap out of it.  Spray carb cleaner or similar on the moving metal parts, but make sure it is removed from the wood first, so as not to remove the finish from the wood.

Really clean a lot in the latch area.  Not uncommon for some crap to get left in there.

Does it pop open when it finally does latch?

Forgot my manners, Welcome    I love my 223 UV

Welcome aboard Ron98002, handirifle is correct. clean the crap out of the action with carb cleaner and re-oil it. but lightly!!! Then use it, use it, use it. It does not matter if you shoot it or not, just open and close the action many times!!!  It should work in just fine....<><....

Thanks for the replys.
Yes it does lock up tite if I force it closed with athority
and it stays closed then. But if I close it normal it will open again
without pushing the latch.Just by pulling down on the barrel.
guess it will wear in.Have to clean on the latch assembly somemore
I suppose.

I have noticed a thin coating on the breech end of the barrel on some of mine.  If that was a 1000th or so thick it might cause troubles too.
