243? 250savage IMP?
« on: October 31, 2004, 09:19:47 AM »
I was hoping to get a Encore carbine in 250 IMP, but I have found a 243 22 inch at a reasonable price and am contemplating getting that. It will be used for critters 75 lbs and down. I want light recoil, etc. etc. A lot more 6mm bullets available too. This is an old question. Hoping for some new answers.

Well the 243 will certainly do what you want.  Many many bullets 55-105gr (probably forgot a few). Not to mention easy to get ammo if you don't reload and perhaps easier to find brass.

That said I would certainly opt for the 250 Ackley, about the best AI cartridge out there and just WAY COOL. You can go from 60-120gr (again probably forgot a few) but there is an amble supply of 25 cal bullets. And if you every wanted to branch out to some BIGGER critters I would fell much better doing so with a 120 grain Partition.

Can't you hear it, "Watcha got there? A 243? Nope it's a 250 Ackley."

Oh yea, I almost forgot. Money should never factor into decisions like this. :-)

Both are good rounds and would server you well for 75 lbs. and down game. If you found a bargin jump on it, you can always get the .250 later if you think you need it.

Get the .250 AI. Take the plunge now, you will not regret it. It takes a certain person to want to join the AI club, go for it.

Just confirmed today Bullberry has shipped my 23 3/4" SS .250 AI bbl., also ordered BB 6 hole base and Warne QR rings.
