Tried 100 gr load in 243 Ultra
« on: November 01, 2004, 09:20:20 AM »
With all the talk about how the ultra 243 does not stablize >85 grain bullets had me reluctant to even buy a box to try out.  But I finally broke down and bought some ultra cheap loads (igman if your wondering) accuracy wise they weren't bad.

Here is the question if the twist was too slow they would all key hole right.  Because all but one hole looks normal. I was shooting at a propped up cardboard box so it could be just a funny tear.  I'll see if I still have the target if I do I'll post a picture.

My guess is that if one was keyholing they all would. Try different loads and check the results. I think the twist rate is 1/10. That should do well for a variety of bullets.
Ohhhh, I hate when that happens

I wasn't aware that the ultra didn't like 85 grainers. My NEF loves them but doesn't like 100 gr.

The twist is plenty fast for heavy bullets I'm not sure why so many people have problems with them mine really likes them, espiecsally the round nose hornadys and its awsum with the hornady light magnums, I just don't like shooting them. They kick. 8)
