The best base (scope rail) around for these guns, bar none, are the standard issue H&R bases, Either the standard rail (5" long) or the Ultra rail (6" long). The Ultra rail has a stabilizer screw in the front with 2 lock screws in the sides, one on each side, to prevent the longer stabilizer screw from moving once properly adjusted. These H&R scope rails have multiple slots to allow you a lot of adjustment to properly set your scope for the optimum eye relief. I have a Weaver base that only has 2 cross slots and while OK it lacks the possible scope positioning of the H&R base. Also, the H&R bases (scope rails) are drilled to use all three mounting holes and come supplied with the proper screws. You can get them directly from Customer Service and they take credit cards over the phone. If you call in the morning it is shipped that afternoon...
Didn't your gun come with a scope rail? They usually do unless supplied with iron sights instead. I think I have read of some that came with iron sights AND a scope rail but I could be wrong. If you plan to keep your iron sights in place and want the Ultra scope rail, measure back from the breech end and make sure your iron sights are at least 6" away from the breech end of the barrel. All of my Handi's with Iron sights are made to accommidate the Ultra rail and some carry iron sights AND the Ultra rail, some have the standard 5" rail, all fit and function fine....<><....
