I though you guys might like to see my latest project. I don't fish heavy flyrods too much, but I decided to build one up for carp fishing. The locals who do it swear by it and call them freshwater bonefish. I've been building rods for a while, and I've decided to try some new wrapping techniques and decorative wrapping since this will be a rod that isn't going to see tons of use. This one is a 2 piece 9' 9 wt rod built on a Forecast blank using sunburst and cobalt thread. This one is about halfway finished, so I'll post more pictures when I get further along. In the meantime, here are a couple of pics and I apologize for my lack of camera skills before I even get started.

Dear Flatlander:
Let's see now, a 9 foot rod and a big carp. You may want to consider a handle section behind the reel, for a two handed grip. Might come in handy...helpful even.
I get my corks from a wine making supplier to use for handles. This way a larger diameter handle can be had. Much more comfortable, especially on a heavy fly rod.
Some time back I did get a book through iner-library loan on fly fishing for carp, can't remember the title. Good stuff, and it works. Carp will take a fly, or anything else they want for that matter, and they don't like you. So tie good knots!
Please tell me, where do you get a Forcast blank?  Woodbutcher

Forecast blanks are a good economy blank imported by Batson Industries out of Washington. I think that they are approx 33 mil. modulus. Batson also makes the Rainshadow line of blanks. There are a lot of shops that stock them these days. I'll PM you with a good place to get a great list of suppliers.
