going to pick up my first handi today. what do i need to do to help make it a better shooter besides give it a good cleaning, polish the chamber and float the barrel with an o-ring? can anyone explain what the best way to polish the barrel is and what size of o-ring to get for the barrel. this is the standard tapered barrel, not the bull. thanks

I used JB's bore paste on a patch and a jagger (I think that is what they're called), not the loop patch holder.

I run about 10 patches covered in JB's back and forth about 15 times each, then gave it all a very good cleaning. Dont forget to clean the latch mech, at the bottom of the barrel where it latches up to the receiver when you close the barrel.

Hi,

I do the same as handirifle does except that i clean all jb's out of bore between new patches of jb.

I then shot my new polished gun with various kinds of cheap factory ammo (100 rounds total). Groups opened up to 2-3 inches after initially shooting 1.25 inches at 100 yards. SO, i did the jb process again and cleaned the barrel really well afterwards. I then broke in the barrel by shooting one round at a time, a light cleaning between rounds, for 20 rounds. Afterwards, i lightly cleaned the barrel and began shooting 5 shot strings. ALL groups, with el cheapo ammo, were under 1.25 inches, with sub MOA's coming from Winchester fodder.

I am not sure if the break in did anything. it is likely the second round of polishing and cleaning did the trick. HOWEVER, it never hurts to break in a barrel either...

OK mine is the bull barrel but I did not do anything, exept giver it good cleaning of course. I would say try it out first and see how it shoot before messing with it.

what size and where exactly do i need to place the o-ring. i plan on shooting the gun first, but would just like to know in case i have to do some tinkering.

9/16"OD x 3/8"ID x 3/32" thick, placed on the barrel stud, install forend, tighten screw just snug, don't compress the "O"ring.
