New Glock 45 round
« on: February 20, 2003, 03:34:37 PM »
Have you heard about the new Glock shortened 45 round? A shortened 45 round to function in a 9mm sized frame for people with smaller hands? Sounds like a bad idea to me, but what do I know. Gaston Glock hasen't made many mistakes so far. I really don't get it though, the 45 acp has just enough penetration. A weaker round doesn't make sense. Just go to a 40. Maybe Glock wants it's own round. They put 40 auto on their 40 S & W semi autos and 357 auto on 357 Sig autos.

As it would not be possible to reduce the case dia.----I wonder how they would fit it into a smaller frame by shortning the case????---------------Must have passed a new law of physics------------hum--

Glock 45 short

If the new 45 is shorter (not reduced case dia.) it could allow shorter front to rear grip size. It will be hard to beat the .40 in this. The .40 is already shorter and with a smaller case diameter. No power problems with the 40.  I guess it will be covered in all the magazines next month. They have a nearly 3 month lag time.

The case length of the 40S&W is .048 shorter than the 45ACP (.850/.898)
Still hard to see how that translates into a smaller grip frame than say the Glock mdl 36. I have a mdl 19 that has a modified grip frame (Stippled and finger grooves removed) that measures 2.108 just below the trigger guard. My stock mdl 36 measures 2.114 in the same area. My mdl 21 with the same modifications as the mdl 19 measures 2.189. All measurements are front to back. The width of the grip frames are as follows:
Mdl 19=1.214
Mdl 21=1.319
Mdl 36=1.109
It would be my guess that the only logic of this new cartridge would be to take something like the .45 super brass and shorten it to take advantage of the stronger brass and load it to higher pressures much like the new short magnums that are so in vogue these days. Oh well, we'll know in a few months!
