The C&R is basically a poor mans FFL (poor cuz ya spend so much  :-D  .)  It allows you to purchase through the mail guns that are listed on the BATF website that are of 50 year old manufacture (meaning LOTS of great surplus guns.)  Thats right, guns right to your door step with no transfer fees, waiting periods or forms to fill (except the requiered log book.)  The above mentioned side benifit is dealer discounts (as, like I said, it is technically an FFL,) at places like: Midway USA, Brownells, Graf and Sons, Numerich Gun Parts corp.....etc.
The application is found on the BATF website, but this message board gives simple instructions on filling out the application as well as the links:

Cost is $30 for three years and you should have it within 2 months.  GB has the Mil-surp and C&R handgun sections which can provide you with more great info on some rather dandy (albiet used) guns.
