DIFFERENT SABOTS

FOLKS,
 I was wondering if anyone has experienced any problems with different sabots. there does not seem to be any industry standard as to pedal thickness & bottom cup configuration. I believe only about 2 or 3 companies make all the sabots for the firearms industry & label them for various companies. Last year I used T/C black sabots in my 209x50 encore with 80 grains of loose 777-fff grade & a Hornady XTP .430 dia 240 gr JHP. Shot MOA. When I used the new green sabots , T/C brand for a .429-430 bullet I was all over the place with 3&4" groups! When I looked at the bottom of the sabot it was different than last years ! The bottom of it was "STEPPED " with little ridges rather than just concave.
Whether this makes a difference or not I don't know. Maybe I just had a bad day, but I would like to hear form anyone who has seen any difference at all.I found some old sabots & got a 3/4" group yesterday at 100yards from the bench.
Also what do you think of the load I'm using ? Would you shoot 125 yards at a whitetail with it ?

Sorry to hear that your having the same inconsistency issues that I am. One would think that a company with as good a track record for quality as T/C, would try a little harder on the consistency issue with their sabots. You can check out my post on the subject from the 27th of October. Even with my 1-1.5" accuracy with this batch, I would not hesitate to shoot a deer at 125yds with this load and a solid rest. Though as I've stated, I've never had the opportunity to shoot anything past 85 yds. Good luck!

Aren't the black sabots meant to be used with .45 (.452) caliber bullets?

I seem to have problems when it comes to hornady plastic sabot,I find myself alway changing them to harvester sabots they seem the best for my m/l
I also found that noslers sabots are excellent also precision blue sabot load easy ,but the hornady just give you a fight when trying to seat them bullets.

Sabots with the stepped bottom are MMP-HPH (high pressure polymere plastic), cupped sabots with a small plastic tit in the middle are usually Harvester...

I agree with lonewolf5347 - Nosler sabots are outstanding I use them in all of my inlines and sidehammers....

Has anyone contacted Precision Rifle/Bullet and asked Cecil where he is purchasing his sabots from?  I know that in 50cal. his big seller is an Orange colored sabot.  Sorry I can't give more details but I've had my problems with XTP's w/black sabots.  I ended up chucking them and going for the Powerbelts now.

     Was at the range Monday with my H&R Huntsman 50 cal.  Using Pyrodex P 100 grains and Hornady 240 gr XTP's,  they were grouping pretty good at 100 yds.  They use the Black sabot.  Just went to MMP's site and they do not have a Orange Sabot.

Were those black sabots extra long that almost covered the XTP?  Those were the last ones I tried that were bad with my Traditions side-hammer.

I also have  used the QT"S made by precision and they have the blue sabot on there bullets that are also easy to load I wonder who makes them ?
 
I do like the silver lighting seem they did drop the deer in there track but there prices are getting a little to crazy

     Yes, they are the Black Sabots and they do cover the bullet.
