MORE UNDERHAMMER NEWS TO PERUSE.......!
« on: November 03, 2004, 02:49:10 PM »
:-)  I got the Ed Rayl 10ga barrel for my H&A underhammer action!!!
Bruce  at underhammers.com mounted the nipple and bead, I did the plum brown finish.

It is 12" TAPERED  octagon, wedding band to TAPERED round! It weighs 3.1 lbs!
Gun weighs about 5-6 lbs.

Everyone is right, one does not want to shoot a cartridge shotgun again!!!
I shot a few clays with it, to work out the load chain. What fun!!!

I made a loading rod from a $2 alumuminum ski pole, which also serves as a walking stick while hunting, if needed.  I worked out a sling on my shooting bag for the rod to keep it out of the way while actually hunting.

I have 5# of 777 2f on hand, but ignition was still hesitant, even with the direct spark of the underhammer!!! NOTHING SHOOTS LIKE BLACK!!!

I like the wedding band, gives the barrel that little something of class!

I like the trigger guard bolt!

How do you plan on finishing the trigger, guard and hammer?

Thank you!
The trigger, hammer  and guard are actually finished. In normal light they are  somewhat blackened from the brown process. The camera flash washed out the actual appearance.

The trigger guard bolt could be [might be, someday] improved upon using a threaded brass standoff. Meanwhile it works.  These H&A's normally have a horrible amount of trigger overtravel, which this arrangement takes care of.

Offhand35,

Nicely done!    Clever idea (Bolt) for reducing trigger travel.

Thank you all! I am very pleased with the way the brown turned out on this barrel! Polishing it with 400 and then 600 grit seemed to remove most of the patchiness that I found in a rifle barrel that I browned without carefull final polishing. The great thing about doing the plum brown finish,is that it can always be redone later......

I have to give credit to Bruce at Blue Grouse Black Powder in regards to the trigger guard bolt for overtravel. He sent my first action out to me set up that way.
