Savage Ejector

I have a Savage 116 in 7mmSTW. The fired shell never clears the action. I have to tip the gun sideways to make sure the case clears the action.
In the heat of the shooting during this deer season it caused a minor cycling issue.
Questions, can I replace the spring in the ejector? Or should I have a gunsmith do it?
Should I send it back to Savage, it was there once already for a major head space issue when I first got it. It blew primers right out of the box.

I assume yours has the ejector as a pin in the bolt face..  If so you will need the spring and a pinpunch of the correct diamter.  There are some places where a their hand would be handy to control the ejector while aligning the pin that holds it in the bolthead..  with it retension slot.  Still it's a fairly straight foreward replacement and they are fairly cheap..  If you lose one it's not that big a deal(experience speaking!).  Allow the retaining pin to remain stuck in it's hole while releasing the ejector.  Restrain the ejector and spring.  Insert the new spring on the ejector tail and the assembly into it's recess..  Tap the pin gently while keeping the ejector restrained and the slot in the ejector aligned with the retaining pin.   Test for free movement after installation.  Be sure to clean the hole after the ejector has been removed and lube lightly with a non-gumming sybthetic oil..
